Species featured: Buff-Tailed Bumblebee; Bombus terrestris, Early Blumblebee: Bombus pratorum, Tree Bumberbee; Bombus hypnorum, Common Carde Bee Bombus pascuorums.  

Key information about Bumblebees:

• Bumblebees live in nests with 50-400 bees (honeybee hives can have up to 60,000 individuals)
• Bumblebee nests only produce a small amount of honey, which they consume themselves
• There are 25 different species in the UK, and they have different lengths of tongue so can feed from and pollinate a wide variety of plant species
• Bumblebees can sting but only do so if they are provoked
• Some food crops, including tomatoes and field beans, are reliant on bumblebees for pollination.
