This dip pen Haiku art has a suminagashi background, a Japanese technique which produces unique results. The words read ‘’Spring Winds", in a world of one colour the sound of the wind”. 

This Haiku by Matsuo Basho is written with Chinese ink on paper with a hand made suminagashi background.  This is an ancient Japanese technique.

The piece is enhanced with 22 carat gold leaf.  The flowers are flat gilded and cut out and applied to the background.

• One of the four great masters of Japanese haiku, Matsuo Bashō is known for his simplistic yet thought-provoking haikus.
• Matsuo Basho (1644-1694) made about 1000 haiku poems through the lifetime, traveling around Japan. His writing “The Narrow Road to the Deep North” is the most famous haiku collection in Japan.
