Gold Leaf Plants | Gold Leaf Bamboo Art

A beautiful piece of art featuring gold leaf plants in this case the mischievous bamboo.  This depiction of bamboo has the quotation,

It is made using the same techniques as were employed by the monks and scribes who created the beautiful manuscripts of the medieval period, such as the Book of Kells and the Lindisfarne Gospels.    The gesso is made by hand using the same ancient recipe, which is then used to form a base on which to lay the gold leaf.  This raises the gold slightly above the paper. The ink is also ground by hand from a stick of green Chinese ink.

This is a slow painstaking process as each stage requires time to dry before the next step can be taken.
