Although we typically think of “Fall” as being an Americanword for autumn, but‘fall’ (short for ‘fall of the leaves’) was in common use in the UK until the 18th century, when the word autumn entered English from the French ‘automne’

One of the most stunning signs of autumn isthe leaves beginning to turn colour.The is due to a chemical reaction, as the shorter days restrict photosynthesis, and thus reduce the amount of chlorophyll in their leaves.

In Greek mythology, autumn began when Persephone was abducted by Hades to be the Queen of the Underworld. In distress Persephone's mother, Demeter (the goddess of the harvest), caused all the crops on Earth to die until her daughter was allowed to return, marking spring.

The autumn equinox is celebrated by pagans with the festival of Mabon – a thanksgiving for the harvest. A common part of the festival is setting up an altar with symbols of the season, as an offering to express thankfulness.

The view of autumn as a season of abundance and plenty is reflected in the poem “To Autumn” by John Keats. His line ‘seasons of mists and mellow fruitfulness' are very evocative of the harvest, and his images of tranquillity and dreaminess speak of autumn as the natural reward for the summer’s hard work.

 Large Zipper Bag:

The large zipped bag is approximately 9 inches square, and 3.5inches deep at the base. The main bag is made fromdark brownwaterproof canvas, with two large outside slip pockets made fromglorious metallic tipped Autumncotton fabric,treated with Fabsil* water repellent. The strap is fixed to the front and back panels, and is adjustable between 27and 52inches.

 Medium Zipper Bag:

The medium zipped bag is slightly under9 inches square, and 3 inches deep at the base. The outside of the bag is two-tone, with a smaller left panel made from brown faux leather, and a larger right panel made from glorious metallic-tipped Autumn cotton fabric treated with Fabsil*water repellent. The brown faux leather strap is adjustable between 27and50inches, and is removable, for those who like to mix up their bag straps.

 Slim Purse:

This slim purse is 4 inches tall by 7 inches wide, with the outside made from glorious metallic-tipped Autumn cotton fabric. It fits unfolded bank notes in the main compartment, which is also useful for receipts etc. The main compartment also has two card slots, each big enough for several cards. There is a second slightly smaller zipped compartment on the front, for coins.

My name is Libby of 'Created by Libby', and I live in the lovely North Yorkshire village of Grassington. 

I have been sewing since I was six years old, when my mother and my Grandmother – both seamstresses – allowed me to sew the STRAIGHT seams on the garments they were making.  But I finally got to indulge my passion for creativity in 2019, when left the rat-race of working in Finance and  did my own 'Escape to the Country'.

I now sew full-time, and I am inspired by beautiful fabrics. I enjoy crafting out-of-the-ordinary bags and purses – in bold colours and often with a theme of 'nature', which surrounds me here in rural North Yorkshire.

I use a mixture of waterproof canvas and polyester, faux leather, and 100% cotton. Where I am making a bag from a fabric which isn't waterproof, I treat it with two layers of Fabsil water-repellent, to protect it as far as possible – because many of my customers also live in this 'green and pleasant' (aka rainy!) part of the country. However, if you have any safety concerns, e,g, allergies, please discuss with me, as the Fabsil can be omitted if required.
